Glam It Up With Something Different For Clients' Next Formal Affairs

Worn low on the nape, tucked loosely on the head or tight in a braid, today's updos cannot be pinned to one look. Here are a few ideas to give you a head start on your client's next formal affair.

Knots at the Nape:

For a romantic retro look, Kimberly Mejia decided to showcase the softer side of the updo with feathers and knots at the nape. “This is a good look for long, thick hair,” she notes.

  1. Prep hair with mousse or medium-hold styling product.
  2. Section hair into three sections, from the top of the head to ears. Clip forward.
  3. Take back section and pull into low side ponytail.
  4. Brush sides back and twist around the ponytail band. Pin the twisted part into the pony while leaving the ends out.
  5. Take smaller sections, smooth with a creamy product, such as System Professional Polish Cream, and tie into knots while tucking in ends. Secure each piece with a few bobby pins.
  6. Apply a final spray, such as Wella System Professional Ultimation spray.
  7. Tuck in feathers in the top of the knots. Make sure to pay attention to the final shape of the arrangement.
