Good days and Bad days!

Attitude

It's all About Attitude!

Shifting your mindset can have a considerable impact on achieving your goals. I know that you all have heard about the power of positive thinking but does it really work? How does your thinking influence your actions and get you the results you want?

Let's breakdown and understand your attitude!

The Wall Street Journal recently published an article about the meaning of our beliefs and the intellectual models, or mindsets that shape our behavior. According to the psychologists interviewed for the article, we all act and perform in accordance with the beliefs which our mind tells us are true.

Yet, most of us have some unreasonable or mistaken beliefs, which in turn, misguide our interpretation of the world. As a result, we see the world not as it is, but as we are – and it's this misguided interpretation that drives our attitude and behavior.

For example, I know if I think something is not possible or out of my reach, I am probably not going to commit much energy and resources to accomplishing the goal. Whether it's underestimating the numbers, recruiting new clients, or simply managing your time efficiently, your thoughts influence your actions.

The perception is that your beliefs become your truths, which in turn represents your reality. Henry Ford explained it best when he said, “Whether you think you can or can't, you're right.”

What does this mean to you and me?

The professionals I associate with are highly skilled, well-educated and committed to being successful. They also maintain an attitude that supports rather than inhibits their ability to optimize performance and results. Over the course of my career, I've witnessed just how significantly this frame of mind can powerfully influence success.

Changes continue to impact the beauty industry, as do the demands on you as a salon or spa professional. No longer is technical training sufficient enough to ensure that you will accomplish your goals. Old habits die slowly because they are driven by an old-fashioned mindset. Despite the efforts of many salons and spa professionals, behavior-based training and monetary incentives do not have a lasting effect on performance. It's your attitude that needs adjusting then long-lasting results can happen.

Insanity is often defined as doing the same things over and over again, while expecting new results. If this rings a bell, it may be time to change your mindset, so you can produce different results.

How do we change our attitude?

In order to replace old habits, you must incorporate change into your attitude, here are some steps you should follow:

1. Begin by specifically identifying the results and intended goals you want to pursue.
2. Create and develop consistent actions that will accomplish those results.
3. Finally, examine your beliefs that affect those actions to determine what may be holding you back.

As an independent technician, you can easily sabotage your attitude with the daily struggles of managing your own business because there will always be good days and bad days to contend with. Don't get too discouraged, keep your head high, your attitude positive and strive to fulfill your dreams. Creating a successful, prosperous business for yourself is completely possible but you must be open to changing your attitude to get the results you want!
